Athlete beaten for running at Champs - Father claims her grades were too low

A teacher accused of using a tree limb to break his daughter's hand and finger because she attended the recent Boys and Girls' Championships was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Friday.
The 37-year-old man who has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and cruelty to child is to return to court on April 14 when the matter will be mentioned as the file is incomplete.
Allegations are that on March 30, the complainant went to the National Stadium to participate as an athlete representing her school in the 4 x 100m relay and the 100m, despite being told by her father not to attend because of her low grades.
It is alleged that the accused, who found out that his daughter was at the games, went to the National Stadium and took the complainant home.
The court heard that the enraged father then allegedly used a piece of tree limb to inflict wounds all over the complainant's body resulting in cuts, bruises, a broken hand and index finger.
It has also been alleged that on the day in question, the accused also beat his 18-year-old son who heard his sister screaming and went to investigate.
It is alleged that the 18-year-old complainant was beaten on his hands and on the back of his neck for allowing his sister to participate at the championships.
