Bob Marley 'darkened himself with shoe polish'
Worried about colour ... Bob Marley.
Reggae legend Bob Marley used shoe polish to darken his hair in a bid to appear "more African", according to his widow Rita.
The star struggled with insecurities over his mixed heritage as the son of a Caucasian father and Jamaican mother, according to a new Marley biography, I & I: The Natural Mystics: Marley, Tosh and Wailer.
Author Colin Grant interviewed members of Marley's family, including his 64-year-old widow, who recalls the singer's anxiety over his fairer complexion in the early 1960s.

Rihanna & Matt Kemp Call It Quits?...
If you haven’t seen Matt Kemp and Rihanna coupled up lately, I think I know why…Rumor has it the relationship is over. Apparently there’s been a lot of cheating on both sides and the couple have called it quits.
With Kemp partying in his off-season, and Rihanna traveling the globe promoting her music, the two slowly drifted apart..Kemp’s penchant for clubbing was also partly to blame for the demise of their relationship.
Willow Smith tired of being a star.....
That quick trajectory into the stratosphere is starting to take its toll on the young star.
She says that though she describes her new found fame as “awesome,” she’s already starting to feel like the success is coming at the expense of her childhood in an interview with NME magazine.
“The hardest part is wanting to hang out with your friends when you have to work,” she says. “My friends will come over and you’re recording and you’re like, ‘Pleeease let me go with my friends. I don’t wanna stay here!’ but people are relying on you.”
We hope her parents recognize this and allow her to have as much of a normal childhood as possible despite her increasing star power!
Cops booted from the force... (ABOUT FLIPPIN TIME!)
Close to 200 police officers have been booted from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for their involvement in corrupt activities since the start of the year.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Felice, who is in charge of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), made the disclosure Thursday afternoon as he provided details on the forces anti-corruption strategies.
The revelation coincided with activities marking International Corruption Day.
ACP Felice said the arrests and dismissals are a major plank of the JCF's three-year anti-corruption strategy.
"One of those strategies is a cleansing programme to rid the organisation of officers who act unethically, corruptly, or who are not displaying the professionalism required of the JCF. To date, from January, 184 police officers have been removed from the organization, majority of whom have been refused re-enlistment," he said
ACP Felice also revealed that of the total number, 133 JCF members were not permitted to re-enlist; while 28 were retired in the public interest.
Twenty-three police officers were dismissed as a result of their involvement in corruption activities.
A further breakdown for the 11-month period reveals that 56 members of the force were arrested with 35 subsequently charged.
At the same time, 83 civilians were charged for breaches of the Anti-Corruption Act with 48 arrests.
Thirty-five JCF employees were also charged for corruption since the start of the year.
According to ACP Felice, while there could have been more arrests the results show that the war against corruption is on in earnest.
"I think we still need to do a lot more as the JCF but as the promotions process goes through, which I'm apart of, looking at some of the people going through, I'm encouraged by what I see. I can see that the managers are endorsing the fight against corruption in the organisation and the unethical behaviour which has tainted the force for some years. But we can't turn around the lack of investment and a lack of training and education over the last 30, 40 years, straight away, so it's going to take a long time but I'm encouraged and I know the Police Commissioner is encouraged by the progress we've made so far," ACP Felice said.

Another spokesperson for the B.O.P., Ed Ross, confirms, “Wesley Snipes has arrived and is at the prison facility in PA.”
ALL THIS YOUNG LADY WANTS FOR XMAS IS HER HOUSE.....
Morisoon shows her refrigerator which, she said, was damaged during the unrest. - Dwayne McLeod
Seven months after the invasion of Tivoli Gardens, and with the Christmas season fast approaching, it is an angry Patricia Morrison which is lamenting the fact that her house, which was damaged during the incursion, is yet to be repaired.
Morrison, 34, told THE WEEKEND STAR that during the police/military invasion of May 24, her house, which is located on Bustamante Highway, was burnt and damaged. She has been living with friends since.
"Inna mi house dark and black and fava tunnel. Mi couch, mi bed, component set and mi fridge mash up. All di tile dem inna mi bathroom mash up."
She explained to THE WEEKEND STAR that her house, which has been unoccupied for the last seven months, is uninhabitable, and said she was forced to buy a new door recently, at a cost of $6,000, in order to keep out cats and goats which had taken up residence there.
The disgruntled resident said she received a cheque of $15,000 from the Social Development Commission, but explained that that figure could not even begin to effect repairs. Instead, she used the money to purchase back-to-school items for her niece who has been living with her since her mother passed away.
"I used dat money fi help my niece, get ar likkle back-to-school tings dem wa bun up, dat couldnt do nuttin pan mi house." She told THE WEEKEND STAR that others from her community, who did not suffer as much, received up to more than five times that amount.
The advent of the Christmas season is frustrating Morrison even more.
"How Christmas fi come ketch mi a people house? Nobody not even come look pan mi place fi see di damage. Nobody nuh seh nuttin to mi! Jesus, God, man! Christmas a come ketch mi a kotch a people yard, while everybody else deh a dem yard a eat turkey and drink red wine. All mi waan do a deh a mi house a eat likkle tin bun and some dumpling, an mi wi satisfy. Good, God, man! Mi cyaan deh a people yard Christmas!"
But even though Morrison is convinced that she registered with the Office of the Public Defender, which she blames for neglecting her, Public Defender Earl Witter, told THE WEEKEND STAR there was no record of a complaint from her.
He explained that the Ministry of Social Security, along with the Social Development Commission, were the bodies that issued the cheques.
Witter said he did see evidence that Morrison had received the cheque which she mentioned. He, however, said if she could prove that the damage she sustained outweighed the value of the cheque, and the damage is in fact attributable to the events of May 24 and the actions of the law enforcement officials, his office would be willing to investigate her cause.
He said, however, that it might be difficult for her to prove the damage she claims, since so much time has elapsed since the incident. He also stressed that his office was not a poor-relief or storm-relief office, but was set up to investigate injustices committed against citizens by agents of the state.
Anyone willing to assist Morrison may contact her at 363-2947.
LESBIAN DEM A GET WICKED PON RAGA EEE??! (MIXUP)

A jus blessings to mi Tambareen Fambily an Mix Up an Blenda crew. Mi seh dem a done mi fram both sides a di lesbian issue. How dem fi do dat?! lol Dem nuh know seh mi a di biggest skettel, an because a straight woman to mi link den dat mek mi di biggest lesbian! DWL!!!! Mad!!
Accusing mi of Promoting Lesbianism
Good afternoon Ragashanti. I would like to know the purpose or intent of your "lesbian mix up" column. Is this some kind of "lesbian promotion" in Jamaica? Don't you think there are other well deserving topics to cover? Are you a gay man trying to highlight lesbians to garner Gay & lesbian unity in Jamaica that is so prevalent in the USA?
Evidently the worst thing that has ever happened to black people was freedom from slavery. That was the ticket to adopt and mimic and endear every lifestyle that colonial masters enjoyed. It's such an irony, to note that when blacks had no freedom their minds were preoccupied with thoughts that empower and enrich ... now that they're free, they are self-destructive. BET channel swept Jamaica by storm and other derogatory cable programs. The rich used the poor boys and girls, then they turn around and use each other. I am by far not a prude, but eroticism goes beyond simple minded indulgences.
Do what you do, if that's all you can do. However, heterosexuals have enough issues to deal with as they are becoming outnumbered and surely don't need anymore "gay & lesbian promotions". You would not write a column promoting the residents of Bellevue mental hospital courting each other, yet you promote this other group who has a mental deficit, simply because it involves "sex". History has proven that gays & lesbians are mentally ill, yet because psychologist and other individuals who use to tend to these persons were violating them "sexually" in various institutions and found sexual gratification from the experience, they later recanted and said this was no longer an illness. I guess for most humans it all comes down to sex in all forms. Pretty soon a column will be written about people who want to screw and marry their pets. A sick evolution. I'm just disappointed that "Jamaicans" have become such weaklings.
Missa Man ... I am The King of Mix UP! A mix up mi say straight!! Mi deal wid all kinda mix up: parson mix up,wedding mix up, funeral mix up, police mix up, politician mix up, obeah mix up, lesbian mix up ... a whole host a topics pon mix ups. So if yuh jus waan pick out one topic fram one week an come try done mi dat a your bizniz. Tek weh yuh self an go pree a cemetery.
Lesbian a Attack an a Threaten Mi
Intimidated by women aren't you? I can see why, I've seen your ugly face and I know that it is difficult to get a woman to sleep with you isn't it?
So you take your sexual frustration out by targeting lesbians. Better be careful though because some lesbians fight back.
Targeting lesbians? Me? I actually have lots of good friends who are lesbians. An wi cool like dat. But you might be referring to my opposition to a minority of lesbians who have always opposed my radio programme, opposed my ads with Mandingo tonic wine, and have consistently sought to get the Broadcasting Commission and advertisers to get rid of my radio programme. Maybe you are referring to my vociferous condemnation of the lesbians who are consistently raping young girls and getting away with it because we erroneously believe only men can rape women. And if you're referring to my strong opposition to the four married women, including the very popular radio announcer who a helper called in and explained that they set her up and raped her at a hotel in Montego Bay, then hear dis ... mi nuh give a damn weh yuh waan say! An if a war yuh a pree ... bring it!
Finally, yuh know you want me ... but mi nuh pet an powda garbage, mi dash weh dat!

Di Genius denies 'fighting' young artistes - Producer guards instrumentals by voicing on them...
Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor. - Contributed
Although a number of persons have been saying that producer Stephen McGregor is 'fighting against' young artistes by voicing gibberish on the instrumentals of some of his recent rhythms, the producer says this is not the case.
On two of his recent releases, 'Street Swag' and 'Winnings' rhythms, Stephen McGregor voiced over the instrumentals instructing people not to use them without his consent.
In the case of 'Winnings', that was released earlier this month, he sang, "no man caan voice pon mi instrumental/ No man to mi rhythm again/ No man to mi version/ No man caan voice voice pon mi track after a nuh rehearsal/ No man to mi rhythm dem."
This move has not gone down well with some people.
"Genius a fight young artiste. Mi naa lie da idea yah mad fi have yuh signature all ova yuh riddim but wah happen to di youth dem weh nuh have money fi pay and voice a tune and jus' a try inna di streets," someone commented on YouTube.
But McGregor said this is far from the truth.
"In everything that I do I get backlash. Nuff people seh is me fighting young artiste but it is nothing like that," he toldTHE WEEKEND STAR.
nothing new
He also noted that the practice is nothing new as it was done as far back as in the 1960s.
"Dem haffi know that it's something that's been going on from before my time," he said.
McGregor explained that he decided to voice on the instrumentals after finding out that people have been using his rhythms and even going as far as using his name.
"A lot of people always take the instrumentals and voice songs on it. People send out the songs saying it's produced by Stephen and it go out there with my name on it. People even put out CD with my logo, contact number and email address. It's bad for business," he told THE WEEKEND STAR, noting that he does not always release the instrumentals for the rhythms.
"Not all of them are bad, you have some people that do good. But I can lose my credibility because my name is on there and it looks official."
In the meantime, McGregor said both 'Street Swag' and 'Winnings' rhythms are doing well.
"The reception is great. Dem a run the streets, so mi just a continue keep it up," he said.
The producer said he was also working on Chino's album that is scheduled for release in March. In addition, he said he was working on a host of songs and rhythms, which he was reluctant to name.
